Forest Policy Modelling Forum
About the Forum
Forests and the forest sector are key to achieving EU goals in the areas of climate, biodiversity, and bioeconomy. To shape and evaluate forest-related policies, both the European Commission and national governments rely on ex-ante model-based assessments. Achieving consistent and effective policy pathways across Member States (MS) and between the EU and MS requires a shared understanding of the policies and their consistent representation in the models.
The Forest Policy Modelling Forum (FPMF) provides a platform for dialogue between policy makers and modellers from both the EU and MS levels. The FPMF offers a venue to discuss the modelling needs essential to support forest policy development and evaluation across the EU.
At the FPMF, participants explore how modelling approaches can address pressing policy questions, share techniques that can be applied across different geographies and scales, and exchange best practices. By fostering common interpretations of policies, the Forum enhances the comparability of policy outcomes, improves the quality of policy impact assessments, and ultimately boosts policy effectiveness.
The Forum is organized by the ForestNavigator project in collaboration with the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Climate Action.
