2nd Forest Policy Modelling Forum

Brussels, 14-15 October 2026

Starts: Wednesday, 14 October, 9:00 CET
Ends: Thursday, 15 October, 14:30 CET

A detailed agenda will be shared in early summer.

Strategic focus of the meeting

Considering recent developments in the EU policy landscape, the second edition will focus on the following key areas:

  • The EU forest sector within a shifting global, socioeconomic, and geopolitical context;
  • The role of recent model-based ex-ante assessments supporting climate, biodiversity and bioeconomy policies at EU and national levels;
  • Advancing modelling approaches related to address emerging policy needs: forest adaptations under climate change and increasing uncertainties, regenerative bioeconomy solutions increasing synergies between climate, biodiversity and bioeconomy objectives, actionable modelling insights transferable to regional/local scale;
  • Strengthening coherence between national and EU-level models to support climate mitigation policies;
  • Enhancing access to comprehensive, harmonized, and detailed forest-sector socioeconomic data to inform robust policy analysis across scales;
  • Integrating AI-driven tools into modelling workflows and data platforms.
  • Addressing emerging policy priorities, including Carbon Removals and Carbon Farming, the Nature Restoration Regulation, and the Strategy for a Competitive and Sustainable EU Bioeconomy.

The Forum will be structured to enable high-level exchange and targeted technical dialogue, combining policy-oriented presentations, panel discussions involving policymakers and modellers and focused sessions designed to advance practical alignment between modelling and policy needs.
