Third “Forest Talks” Webinar

Integrating EO Data in National Forest Monitoring and Assessment
23 February, 2026, online: 11:00 – 12:30h CET

Enhancing the quality and frequency of greenhouse gas estimates is important for understanding the impacts of natural disturbances, forest management, and EU forest policies. By integrating National Forest Inventories, Earth Observation data, and models such as Carbon Budget Models, we can better assess forest carbon pools under UNFCCC and EU legislations. The ForestNavigator project presents insights from case studies in Ireland, Czechia, and Italy. ForestPaths and PathFinder will also share their approaches to integrating EO and field information.

This webinar will:

  • Explore opportunities and limitations of field- vs EO-based dataset
  • Discuss uncertainties in GHG reporting
  • Gather feedback on alternative data integration methods

Please register to join the webinar!

This seminar series on forest monitoring and forest-based policy pathways for climate and biodiversity goals is organised by ForestNavigator, in collaboration with its sister projects ForestPaths and Pathfinder.

Open letter from the community for the full consideration of Earth Observation in the EU Forest Monitoring Law

Recognizing the increasing pressures on European forests, a community of Earth Observation (EO) experts have issued an open letter for consideration in shaping the Forest Monitoring Law (FML). The law as proposed by the European Commission includes the collection and sharing of timely and comparable forest data obtained through a combination of ground-based measurements and Earth Observation technology.
