ForestTalks Webinar #4
What needs to happen for Europe’s forests to deliver on the 2050 climate and biodiversity goals?
17 November, 2026, online: 10:00 – 12:15h CET
Achieving the EU’s climate and biodiversity goals for 2050 is essential for healthy forests and a sustainable, prosperous economy. But what will it take to get there? This webinar will explore the policy and forest management changes needed to strengthen the contribution of Europe’s forests to climate neutrality and biodiversity conservation. Drawing on results from three EU-funded research projects , ForestPaths, ForestNavigator and PathFinder, it will examine possible pathways towards 2050 and discuss the actions needed at EU and national levels.
The webinar will feature a keynote by Frans Timmermans, former Executive Vice-President of the European Commission for the European Green Deal and European Commissioner for Climate Action, who will share his perspectives on implementing the European Green Deal in a changing world.
This webinar will:
- Present forest-based policy pathways towards climate, biodiversity and bioeconomy goals identified by ForestPaths, ForestNavigator and PathFinder.
- Discuss key policy and forest management actions needed to strengthen the role of forests in achieving climate neutrality, halting biodiversity loss and ensuring socioeconomic sustainability.
- Invite participants to share their views on priorities for achieving the EU’s 2050 climate and biodiversity goals through an interactive discussion.
Chair: Dr Robert Mavsar, Director of the European Forest Institute (EFI)
